Pretty Petals

Pretty Petals explores the interplay of folded elements and vibrant color, expanding on my previous work with dimensional paper art. Inspired by the technique used in Lifted Triangles, I wanted to create a new piece that incorporated folded up parts.

When drawing the shapes for this piece, I initially selected random colors simply to differentiate them. These colors selected without intention evoked a floral quality I loved, ultimately leading to the title Pretty Petals. This artwork features some of the largest individual paper pieces I've ever incorporated into a single work. Despite its size, the piece was created surprisingly quickly due to the dimensions of the paper shapes.

A key aspect of Pretty Petals is the contrast between the directions of the lifted pieces and the vertical color repeat. This juxtaposition is my favorite part of the piece, creating a dynamic and visually engaging composition. The resulting artwork celebrates the beauty of blossoming flowers through a unique exploration of form, color, and texture.
