Daydreaming Diamonds
Individual Piece
Daydreaming Diamonds is a vibrant and dynamic piece inspired by a childhood memory: a multi-colored pen with pink, purple, and yellow inks that I drew with all the time as a kid. This piece, which was the first I created after a significant break from art-making, explores layering and color combination through a series of geometric shapes. The bright palette is directly linked to the joy I experienced as a child when using this pen.
The arrangement of triangles, which vary in size from 3in. x 1in. to 2in. x 2in. and then 1in. x 3in., creates a sense of movement and rhythm across the canvas. The triangles are layered in such a way that the colors blend and shift. This layering influences how the colors are perceived, resulting in surprising color interactions for the viewer. Achieving the perfect color repetition and balance was a bit of a challenge, leading to multiple variations and numerous backgrounds during the planning phase before I settled on the final design. The final composition evokes a sense of joy and youthful creativity, capturing the essence of the daydreaming referenced in the title. For me, it’s a piece that is both visually stimulating and emotionally resonant.
