Mermaid Tail
Individual Piece
Mermaid Tail is a personal favorite, born from an exploration of shape manipulation and pattern. The design process began with a simple form, which I then altered by making a precise cut to create a thin segment. That segment was then overlapped onto the main body of the shape, resulting in a layered effect. This technique, while seemingly simple, created a surprising degree of complexity in the piece and increased visual interest.
The color palette features a captivating combination of turquoise and teal, hues I consistently find myself drawn to for their vibrancy and depth. These shades, reminiscent of tropical waters, are juxtaposed with a deep blue and pale pink, creating striking contrasts and adding a sense of dynamic tension to the composition. The points where the pink and dark blue meet are particularly impactful, creating a visual pop that draws the eye and highlights the interplay of light and shadow.
Reflecting on the creation of Mermaid Tail, I recognize its significance in my artistic development. It was a valuable exercise in refining my understanding of placement, achieving consistency in shape cutting, and mastering overall composition. The repetitive nature of the design demanded precision and focus, pushing me to develop new levels of craftsmanship. The finished piece, with its iridescent and scaly appearance, evokes the image of a zoomed-in section of a mermaid's tail, sparking the imagination and hinting at hidden depths.
