Neon Sunset

Individual Piece

A yellow pink blue geometric art, diagonal pattern, hand-cut paper design.

Neon Sunset is a vibrant piece that explores the interplay of opposing design elements. The design process began with my desire to combine a pattern at one angle with a color repeat shifting at a different angle to create a more hypnotic visual experience.

In my initial design concept, I inadvertently evoked a nautical theme that reminded me of a compass or other nautical symbolism, which wasn't where I wanted to go with the piece. To move away from this unintended direction, I reformulated the pattern into its current state. Ironically, the final pattern possesses a subtle resemblance to a rope, a humorous fact that I didn’t really notice until I completed the piece. I guess my desire to use a sunset over the ocean as the subject couldn’t help but call out to other oceanic themes. In the end, the high contrast background enhances the vibrancy of the colors and makes the pattern truly stand out.

Creating Neon Sunset also provided valuable lessons in embracing imperfection. I learned that even when errors occur in placement or sizing, leading to necessary corrections that expand and contract the pattern, the finished piece can coalesce in a harmonious way that effectively concealing those initial mistakes.

Delve into Neon Sunset to experience a unique artwork where color and pattern converge to create a captivating and dynamic visual experience.
