Water Garden
Individual Piece
Water Garden is a bold, abstract artwork that explores color and pattern, inspired by a vision of flowers floating on water. The piece began with a palette of pink and green, a combination I've always found appealing for its balance of energy and tranquility. As I developed the concept, I felt that blue would complement both pink and green, and the image of a water garden, with its colorful blooms reflected in the water, naturally emerged. The dynamic color palette is central to this piece.
When I began this piece, I had previously made several compositions that used overlapping pieces of paper. Although that technique is common in my work, I purposely wanted to move away from that style for this design. Water Garden employs a geometric pattern where the paper pieces are intentionally spaced slightly apart. This choice gives the composition a distinct graphic quality and allows each individual shape to be clearly defined. The precise arrangement of the shapes contributes to the overall design.
The diagonal orientation of the pattern also introduces a dynamic, twisting effect that enhances the overall visual interest, creating a sense of movement and rhythm across the surface. The dark blue background further enhances the vividness of the foreground colors, making them truly pop with graphic intensity. The overall effect is both lively and serene, evoking the beauty of a tranquil water garden.
