Lifted Triangles
Series of 2
The Lifted Triangles duo revisits a technique from one of my earliest pieces, incorporating 3D paper folding elements to explore dimensionality. In this work, I aimed to create a sense of progressive elevation, where the raised geometric patterns appear to ascend and expand as the pattern evolves across the surface.
The color scheme for the green and blue piece had been in my mind for a long time, and this design proved to be the perfect vehicle for it. The cool, calming tones of green and blue enhance the three-dimensional effect of the dimensional paper art. True to my love of contrasts and exploring opposing forces, I created a second piece in complementary colors—a vibrant pairing of warm and cool hues.
The overall pattern, with its intricate arrangement of lifted forms, evokes a sense of wonder and discovery. It brings to mind images of galaxies swirling in the vastness of space, with their spiraling arms and celestial depths. Simultaneously, the faceted structure also recalls the surprising beauty revealed when you crack open a geode, exposing the hidden crystalline formations within. This duality of inspiration—the cosmic and the terrestrial—adds another layer of complexity and intrigue to this modern art piece.
